Design Group Manager / Engineering Manager

A successful Design Group Manager / Engineering Manager is required for our specialist electro-mechanical engineering client based in Fareham, Hampshire . Reporting into the Program manager the purpose of the role is to coordinate UK engineering programs and personnel and to ensure that all programs are delivered on time and to budget.

The ideal candidate will have relevant & proven engineering management experience & a broad knowledge of electronic, mechanical and software disciplines. Experience within the defence, engineering, manufacturing industries would be of interest.

Education and Experience

  • a master or bachelor of science
  • proven track record of successful  management and leadership
  • experience and success in taking ideas through concept, development and into production
  • broad knowledge of mechanical, electronic and software disciplines
  • knowledge of project management practises and procedures
  • knowledge of human resources management practices and procedures
  • knowledge of business and management principles
    • computer skills and knowledge of office software packages

 

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Work with the Program Manager to ensure the combination of European and UK design engineering resources are best applied to the engineering programs
  • Manage UK programs for new product development, product upgrades and engineering projects ensuring they are on time and to budget
  • Coordinate projects, make detailed plans to accomplish goals and direct the integration of technical activities
  • Recruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Confer with management, production, and sales/after sales staff to discuss project specifications and requirements.
  • Perform administrative functions such as:- approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Prepare and review budgets, bids, and contracts relating to engineering programs
  • Consult or negotiate with clients to prepare project specifications
  • Ensure availability of accurate engineering information for internal and external distribution.
  • Provide all the necessary engineering resources to implement the agreed engineering work and schedule
  • Provide engineering support to the Technical Support Group and, when required address customer complaints related to engineering
  • Provide engineering support to the Production Engineering Group and ensure technical problems in Production/T & C are prioritised and do not delay equipment delivery
  • Provide engineering support to the Operations Projects Team and ensure activities are performed within the timescale allowed and defined by the manufacture programme
  • Review and minimise risks and provide KPI’s to measure department performance and report to the management team
  • Ensure all engineering activities and projects are documented and compliant with the company quality, HSE and Environmental policy
  • Liaise and communicate with other Managers and participate as a member of the Management Team
  • National & international travel in support of the company’s technical objectives
