Mechanical Design Engineer

Advanced Selection Ltd have been appointed by our exclusive specialist manufacturing client based in Hampshire to find a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to work predominantly on original design projects and will see them through to installation/commissioning.

This role is focused on the Design Engineering of large capital equipment, process equipment, machine design projects from initial concept through to completion, commissioning & installation. Our client is interested in candidates with this industry experience but may consider other experienced mechanical design candidates looking to develop into this area. You must be motivated and committed as training will take 2-3 years in this instance.

The Design Engineer needs to be confident in using 2-D & 3-D Cad to produce design layouts for new and original equipment concepts. For larger projects the Senior Engineer must be able to co-ordinate and lead the design activity within the team allocated to the project. The core discipline of the engineering dept is Mechanical Engineering, but an appreciation of aspects of Chemical engineering is helpful, particularly when considering new concepts of processing.

 

The ideal candidate will have;

  • Mechanical Design Engineering experience
  • BSc or B.Eng. (Mechanical Engineering/Engineering- Science/Chemical Engineering)
  • Relevant experience machine design , capital equipment  design, processing equipment design / in a control systems design electrical/factory control industry is highly desirable but not essential. /  Relevant practical OEM engineering experience in a process or Capital equipment type industry

Relevant Experience required :

  • Experience using Autocad 2008 or later.
  • Experience of Design with 3D packages preferably Inventor (Desirable)
  • Preparation of Design Schematic, Assembly and Detail drawings.
  • Preparation of parts lists.
  • Experience in sheet metal and fabricated components.
  • Preparation of P&ID’s design schematics
  • Experience in specifying electrical components.

 

  • Relevant experience in a design environment of process or capital equipment type industry.
  • Working knowledge of Machinery safety standards (EN 13849-1, EN62061 desirable but not essential)

 

The design of the process equipment requires knowledge of many specialised areas of technology. The processing is highly automated therefore a good appreciation of control and instrumentation technology is desirable for the equipment designer, so that control philosophy can be incorporated into the design from the very beginning.

Candidates with any of the following experience would be of interest, but these can also be developed;

Basic structural design and simple stress analysis of structures

Calculation of dynamic loads

Sheet metal design, particularly design for manufacture.

Piping systems for saturated and superheated steam

Basic thermodynamics

Air handling and ducting systems

Selection and specification of centrifugal fans

Design and selection of drives with geared motors

Automatic positioning systems – electrical and pneumatic

Process instrumentation for pressure, flow and temperature

Combustion and heat transfer

Heat and mass-balance

Safety of machinery

Awareness of cost implications of design
